OPTIMAL WILLS

Lasting Power

of Attorney

Benefits of a Lasting Power of Attorney

A Lasting Power of Attorney is a legal document that is made whilst someone still has mental capacity to do so. Should they lose capacity at a later point without making an application for a Lasting Power of Attorney, your loved ones would need to apply to courts to become a ‘deputy’.

“A Lasting Power of Attorney allows you to give authority to the people you trust to act and speak for you,
should you lose the power to make decisions of your own.”

Health and welfare decisions

A Health and Welfare Lasting Power of Attorney gives someone you trust the power to make
decisions about your health and wellbeing,
for example:

You apply and register it now, but it’s only used if you can’t make your own decisions in the future.

Financial decisions

A Finance and Property Lasting Power of Attorney gives someone you trust the power to make
decisions about your money and property,
for example:

These powers can be used at any time once the LPA has been registered providing you have given consent.
